Who is better off: The Blind or The Deaf?

The Pulse posed the question above to some of our senior students. Below are their answers:

Kwaku: Deaf.

Hassan: Deaf. You need to see what’s happening around you.

Jeffrey: Blind. You need to enjoy music.

Damien: Deaf. You can easily learn to lip read and talk sign language.

Jordan: Blind.

Abisoye: Deaf. You can see all the beautiful gifts of God.

Sundeep: Deaf. You at least see what you don’t hear.

Wael: Deaf. You would not be affected by what people say about you.

Amadu: Deaf. Being deaf is not as frustrating as be ing blind. You can use sign language to communicate.

Adel: Deaf. You can see all the gifts of God and the beautiful starry sky.

Desola: Deaf.

Janet: Deaf.

Rachel: Deaf. If you are walking with some people and they are talking bad about you, you would not hear. You could follow people’s lips as well as learn sign language to cope.

Lamis: Deaf. Sign language could be used for com munication. Blindness would be terrifying be cause you could not see your surroundings and that would make you feel unsafe all your life.

Contrary to what Senior School Students believe, research has proven that it is preferable to be blind than deaf. Not many people know sign language and deaf people end up feeling very lost and lonely while blind people can at least communicate.
