The academic program is designed for children from Pre
Nursery through Twelfth Grade. Pre
School activities are designed to create an educational experience
that is enjoyable and is at a level where the child is comfortable
as well as callenged. Children are motivated to develop early
phonics, reading, writing and math skills. In addition to the
basic core curriculum, children are introduced to concepts in
Science, Health, Social Studies, French and Bible. Fun activities
such as art, music, computer, story time and physical education
are also part of the Pre School program.
Junior School students are provided with standard American textbooks,
which remain the property of the school. Core subjects are:
Math, English, Reading, Spelling, Social Studies, Health, Science,
French, Computer Science and Physical Education. Other subjects
offered once a week include Music, Art, Bible, and Library.

Senior School students are required to take the following
core courses: Math, English, Literature, Economics, Geography,
History, Biology, Chemistry, Health, Physics, French, Computer
Science and Physical Education. Each term two electives are
offered, such as CPR, Cross stitch, Drumming, Debate, Oral Communication,
Career Development, etc.
A set standard is
required for both Junior and Senior school classes. Students are
not promoted to the next grade if they fail any three subjects,
or if they fail both Math and English, during the 3rd term grading
period. Repeating students may retake exams at the end of the summer
and continue with their classmates provided they pass the exams
the second time around. Such standards are necessary to ensure that
by the time ACA students graduate they will be well prepared for
university level academics.
Senior School students
are prepared for several external exams, including the University
of London G.C.E. “O” level examinations, as well as
the American SAT I and SAT II tests, administered at the University
of Ibadan. Students also have the opportunity of taking the C.E.E.P.
French exam from Paris. Senior School students are presented with
a High School Diploma upon completion of the 12th grade. All students
who have graduated from ACA are currently enrolled in universities
in Lebanon, USA, Canada, and India.
ACA’s
students continue to excel in external exams. One third of all students
taking SAT I have scored above 1350. This year
we received the record of having the highest score of all
students in Ibadan, in the University of London GCE “O”
level examination.
