ACA
started as a one room home school called “Shell
Close School” in 1991 when Karen Nwulu
(current principal) was approached to teach a group of nine children,
aged 7-11, from Britain, France, Iran, India, and Lebanon. Within
a year the school had grown to three classrooms, and expanded
to include a Junior High. By 1993 a Pre School was established,
followed by a Senior High in 1995.
The school’s name was changed to the American Christian
Academy when it was formally registered in 1996.
The PTA took off in the same year with Joke Nassar
as the first president. A six-member school board, comprised of
four Americans and two Nigerians, was established in 1998. Two
years later, ACA received its Certificate
of Accreditation by the Ministry of Education.
Through the years, ACA
has attracted students and teachers from thirty
six different countries, representing all six of
the inhabited continents of the world. Students who started with
us in 1991 have since graduated from ACA and
are currently in their junior year at universities around the
globe.
Although ACA acknowledges the innumerable contributions
of so many to its success and growth, we ascribe our existence
and our vision for the future to the unseen hand of the
Almighty God.
