Physical Education
at ACA is an important part of the curriculum.
Each year different sports are offered during the P.E. periods
as well as during afternoon club activities. Our students have
actively participated in the following sports over the years:
basketball, swimming, soccer, badminton, tennis, volleyball,
gymnastics, aerobics, American football, field hockey, horse riding,
and ping pong.
Although ACA’s
expansive grounds play host to volleyball, badminton, ping pong,
pool, soccer and basketball, proximity to the Recreation Club and
the Adamasingba sports complex enables students to use the swimming
pool, tennis and basketball courts, as well as the football, and
track and field pitches for both practices and competition.
“Sports
Daze” is an annual event usually held in March, in
which the whole school is divided into different houses (Zambezi,
Congo, and Niger) and compete in various athletic events.
This event is highly competitive and is the highlight of our Physical
Education program.
ACA competes regularly with
other schools in both soccer and basketball. In 2002, the “IROKOs”,
ACA’s soccer team made up of boys 12 and under, took part
in the USA Schwann Cup Soccer Competition, in Blaine, Minnesota.
The Irokos enjoyed celebrity status as the only team from Africa
and was given the honor to light the torch at the Olympic style
opening ceremony.
